“You’re Not Special” – High School Commencement Speech

The following is a commencement address delivered at Wellesley High School (Massachusetts, United States) on June 1, 2012.  The speaker, David McCullough Jr., is a faculty member (English teacher) at the school.  This speech is known as the “You’re Not Special” speech, which has gone viral on the Internet.  It begins with humor and candid observations, and it ends with inspirational advice to the graduates.

Earlier today (June 12, 2012) on CBS This Morning, McCullough was interviewed about this speech.  McCullough responded with grace, down-to-earth sincerity, a deep respect for the graduates at his school and an optimistic belief in their abilities.  You can see the video interview embedded in the article below.
