Boston Dynamics has developed several remarkable robots. For example, the following is a short video of BigDog, which has been labeled a “military robot mule.”
This is a partial description of BigDog from the Boston Dynamics website:
BigDog is the size of a large dog or small mule; about 3 feet long, 2.5 feet tall and weighs 240 lbs. In separate tests BigDog runs at 4 mph, climbs slopes up to 35 degrees, walks across rubble, climbs a muddy hiking trail, walks in snow and water, and carries a 340 lb load. BigDog set a world’s record for legged vehicles by traveling 12.8 miles without stopping or refueling.
For more information on this and other robots from this same company, check the Boston Dynamics website. From the Home page, click on “Robots” at the top left. Check out all eight (8) robots presented: LS3, PetMan, Cheetah, BigDog, SandFlea, RHex, RISE, and LittleDog. (The BigDog page has a different video on this website from the one above.) Every robot page on this website either has a video that you see immediately or has a link to a video. Each robot has a unique function, such as SandFlea; and each is worth a look.
